Tutorial to create Glossy Trash Icon with real simple steps

This tutorial teaches to create high quality glossy trash icon with real simple steps, also you can learn to create some simple shapes and glossy touches to an icon. Let’s create.

Final Preview

This is how the final preview will look like.

Step 1

Create new photoshop file with dimension 600×600.
Create Radial gradient from # D4D5C9 to #2D2D2C like the sample below

Step 2

Create oval shape and fill it with # 58443B like the sample below
Now duplicate and move it top
Name the layer “Shape 1” & “Shape 2”.

Step 3

Add new layer in- between “shape 1” & “Shape 2” layer
Now create rectangle touching the both the oval shapes like the sample below and fill it with # 58443B, now name the layer to be “shape 3”

Step 4

Select shape 2 (Ctrl + Click), Now add new layer and fill it with radial gradient
# F1F3E5 to transparency like the sample below

Step 5

Now muliselect layer shape 1, Shape 2 and Shape 3 (Ctrl + Shift + Click)
Move the selection to the top like the sample below
Now add new layer and fill with same radial gradient # F1F3E5 to transparency

Step 6

Being in the same, Now again muliselect layer shape 1, Shape 2 and Shape 3 (Ctrl + Shift + Click)
Now Select > Inverse and delete the extending gradient

Step 7

Now again multi select layer shape 1, Shape 2 and Shape 3 (Ctrl + Shift + Click)
Add New Layer, and add the same radial gradient # F1F3E5 to transparency like the sample below

Step 8

Now move the selection to little top like the example below and delete it.

Step 9

Well now the interesting part, lets create some simple glossy effects.
Add new layer, Choose the brush tool and the size to be 13px, and the color is same # F1F3E5
And create some rough painting like the sample below

Now Apply: Filter > Blur > Motion Blur
Angle = -90, distance 166 and apply.
you can apply the same filter one more time to achieve the desired effects.

Step 11

Being in the same, Now again muliselect layer shape 1, Shape 2 and Shape 3 (Ctrl + Shift + Click)
Now Select > Inverse and delete the extending gradient

Step 12

Being in the same layer, now just select Shape 2 (Ctrl + Click) and delete

Step 13

Add new layer, again choose the brush, Choose the brush tool and the size to be 13px, and now the color is # 2D2D2C
And again create some rough painting like the sample below

Now repeat the whole process again to get the output like the sample below

Step 15

Add new layer, Ctrl + Click on the Shape 2 layer

Step 16

Add new layer, Ctrl + Click on the Shape 2 layer and fill the radial gradient from # F1F3E5 to transparency like the sample below
Without deselecting apply filter Gaussian blur, Radius 5

Step 17

Add new layer, Ctrl + Click on the Shape 2 layer and fill the radial gradient from # 4F3F38 to transparency like the sample below

Step 18

Now add new layer, Select layer shape 1 (Ctrl Click)
Fill it with white #ffffff

Step 19

Move the selection one pixel up and delete the rest, and now move the layer little top like the sample below

Step 20

Now duplicate the layers and place it like the sample below

Step 21

Now merge all the three layers and duplicate, and apply Filter > Blur > Guassian blur> Radius 1

Now select rectangular marquee, set 10px feather, create it like the sample below and delete it.

Step 23

Now lets apply little more glossiness to it
Using pen tool create shape similar to sample below and fill it white #ffffff

Step 24

Now duplicate the layer and apply filter blur Gaussian blur and set the radius to be 3px and merge both layers. Now duplicate the layer and bring it to bottom like the sample below

Using pen tool, create shape something similar to the below example for handle

Fill Handle shape with # 534139, Now fill shadow below handle.
First for each end, like the sample below

Now merge both layer and Apply Filter > Gaussian Blur > Radius 2, like the sample below

Now Shadow for handle itself, create shape something similar to below example

Fill it with linear gradient from # 291F1A to transparency, and apply Filter > Gaussian Blur > Radius 2, like the sample below

Lets make handle little dimensional, Select the handle layer (Ctrl + Click)

Fill it with white(# ffffff) to transparency linear gradient

Now move the selection alone like the below example and delete it, and move the layer one pixel below.

Now duplicate the layer and apply Filter > Gaussian Blur > Radius 2, like the sample below

Almost done, now create shadow below the icon
Duplicate shape 1, select the bottom copy and apply Filter > Gaussian Blur > Radius 10, like the sample below

Now Lets apply some some special effects to all over the icon to look more rich
Select all, Copy All (Edit > Copy Merged) and paste it above all layers
Now filter > Blur > Gaussian blur – 5 radius
