Creating a Cool Paper Flight Icon with the mixture of green leaf image

In this tutorial we will see how to create some basic shapes and giving depth to elements, also you will learn to create some glossy touches to an icon. Also Free PSD available for Download. Let’s Start.

Final Preview

This is how the final Icon will look like in this tutorial

Step 1

Create new Photoshop file with dimension 600×500
Choose radial gradient with #FFFFF to #dcdfe1 like the sample below

Step 2

Create basic line like the sample below for reference and fill it with #ff00000

Step 3

Using Polygonal lasso Tool (L) draw basic shape over the reference line like the sample below

Step 4

Now fill it with #dcdfe1

Step 5

Now slice the shapes like the below example and distribute to different layers and name it Shape 1, Shape2, Shape 3 & Shape 4

Step 6

Move layers closer to each other like the sample below
Let’s give some depth to shapes, initially taking the shape 1
Select Shape 1 layer (Ctrl+Click) apply linear gradient # f8f7f8 to transparency

Step 7

Select Shape 2 layer (Ctrl+Click) apply linear gradient #bcbcbc to transparency like the sample below

Step 8

Now same process to Shape 3 but with darker shade.
Select Shape 3 layer (Ctrl+Click) apply linear gradient # 9a9a9a to transparency like the sample below

Select Shape 4 layer (Ctrl+Click) apply radial gradient #f5f5f5 to transparency like the sample below

Step 10

Almost done, lets give little more glossiness to the Icon.
Select Shape 1 layer (Ctrl+Click) apply radial gradient #FFFFF to transparency to the new layer top of it.

Step 11

Make the selection like the below example and delete the extending glossiness

Repeat the same step for Shape 4

Delete extending glossiness

Step 14

Let’s make the glossiness in detail
Using polygonal lasso tool create shape similar to below example and fill it with #ffffff.
Appy Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur > radius = 2

Step 15

Now repeat the same steps to get the below effect

Now using the pen tool create shape like the example below and fill it with white (# ffffff)

Now repeat the same step above Shape 4

Step 18

Let’s create shadow below all layers like the sample below, here the color for shadow is # 838383 with Gaussian blur effect.

Step 19

To make the icon more interesting, add any image that best suits.
Here green leaf image taken for example.

Step 20

Now using pen tool crop the image, and apply filter > sharpen

Step 21

Now the final step, apply shadow for the leaf
